Interior Architecture Design iv

Module Synopsis

This module enhances multi-disciplinary projects settings which enables students to apply their discipline-specific knowledge and collaborate with students from other disciplines to fulfil the set goals. The module will deepen student understanding of design processes/methodologies and reflect upon their relevance and effects on real-life design projects that they are working on in respond to the the impact that can be made via the relevant United National Sustainable Development Goals (SDG4-Quality Education and SDG-Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions) project. In this manner students develop their potential to be reflective practitioners, constantly seeking to understand the contexts and extend the effects of their design work. It further develops students’ methods in responding to a design brief through development of conceptual studies, spatial programming and ergonomic requirements on multiple functions and levels of an interior space. The learning and teaching approach for the module will be studio-based, with students engaging with practical tasks during the studio sessions, and presenting their ideas and thoughts within the group. Information and knowledge will be managed and transferred using both traditional and digital methods through approaches such as lecture, discussion, case studies and projects through active, collaborative and multidisciplinary learning approaches. In the preliminary design work, emphasis is directed into design process; programming, critical thinking with considerations of environment influences, behavioural studies, design resolution and end user’s needs. Distinctively the progression would be enhanced with having effective graphical communication, technical skill that manipulates various specialised details of materiality and specifications. Students will be assessed through formative and summative assessments. Formative assessment will be conducted throughout the project phase development, while the summative assessment evaluates the final presentation and the walktrough animation. There is regular review, feedback and critique sessions leading to the final design review to assess progress and alignment to the learning outcomes in relation to the project brief. This is in tandem with knowledge that students should acquire of the Industrial Revolution 4.0 and 5.0 and how it could impact the skills, technology and interior related matters in design.

Detailing & Working Drawings

Module Synopsis

This module enhances students understanding of the technical knowledge in interior construction and design integration of technical documentations in reference to industry standards acceptable of the profession. The significance of building science, services and technologies, regulatory framework and building standards, enhancement of materials and finishes in design, architectural drawing conventions, and technical competency would be the underlying component that attributes to the structure of this module. The module also covers the schematic processes from design approval to the production of working drawings at the final task.  Students will have to produce series of drawings in a relevant types and formating using the conventions of architectural representation in an appropriate media. Students will also be exposed to how this module helps them understand the impact that can be made via the relevant United National Sustainable Development Goals (SDG9- Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure and SDG11-Sustainable Cities and Communities).

The delivery of the module are based on blended learning approach where guided learning such lectures and tutorial session shall be conducted either via online synchronous or asynchronous sessions and to be supported with face-to-face session during the studio session. Regular review and feedbacks is given in the form of formative assessment for the two assignments and summative assessment for the final task.

The students will be assessed by individual performance for the respective assignments given. First assessment component shall be an observation of building element in the interior fit-out where students have to measure and reproduce set of drawings as format required. The second assessment will be the production of technical drawings in respond to the sustainable environment which enhancement of materiality and sustainability to be materialised in designing the bespoke details of the interior fit out spaces. building. As for the final assignment, the series production of working drawings, schedules and documentations intergrate with the design module  implemented at the final stage.
